The Golden Ratio

22.12.2015

You don’t have to be good at mathematics to be a numerologist.  Nor do you have to be an actuarial scientist.  You only need a passion for numbers.  Numbers are magical.  Where did their shapes even come from in the first place?  And why did Roman Numerals change into the kind of numbers with which we are now familiar?  I imagine a different message probably needed sending as times modernised and it became more effective to use numbers, than numerals.  Or – the world as it was known to be came to an end and when the new futures were spliced together to recreate the sheer wonder of what had been before there was a slight miscalculation that led to an unexpected over-convergence.  When you have that kind of unexpected overlap in time the strangest things can happen.  Like food falling from the sky and turning into fishes, for instance.

The odd numbers are my favourite numbers.  Even numbers are fine when they come in pairs, otherwise they are best left to their own devices.  Odd numbers have more zeitgeist, for example, than even numbers do.  They embrace their sharp edges, their inconventional un-matchedness.  Through natural selection, an odd number cannot be superstitious or obsessive-compulsive.  They can, however, be incredibly particular when it comes to their presentation and their representation.  You cannot get an odd number wrong.  There is a reason that it is odd to begin with.  Whether it is or isn’t a good reason is not the question.  The question is whether or not the even numbers can count.

The Fibonacci Sequence is the mapping of an actual pattern, a wavelength clearly in motion, since for numbers there is no infinity.  Neither is there an end in sight for a nautilus or a golden spiral.  The ratio of one number to another – in that sequence – is perfect.  And yes, perfect does exist.  It has to in some dimensions.  Like this one in which we currently find ourselves.  For instance, if a parachute is not packed perfectly on earth, it will not open the right way for you when you need it to break your fall.  It is best to understand that, if you will delegate to another the packing of your parachute.

DEBUTANTE’S BALL

Don’t look at your feet, he said, or you will trip.  Look straight ahead, at the far side of the room.
We crowded the staircase for a posed photo
after raiding the car park for some car-stereo O.M.D.,
illicit beers and cigarettes
and
our chaperones’ better sense for underage champagne.
Sparkling wine, actually.
Mildly a-buzz
we accepted certificates for our virginity
and waited to be stormed by the eligible batchelors.
I am still waiting.
I have told you beowulf, I hate waiting.

I wait for you to bare your teeth at me in a riding-hood smile
I anticipate shooting that smile off your face.
Eagerly.
Smug bastard, take a hike to nowhereland.
I have no time free to send your shit into my dreams.
You better not have told me another bullshit rendition of your truth.
Thus far, I only know yours in condition, like as in conditional.
I don’t agree with that.  I agree with as is.
That means eclectic – a bit new, a bit old.
A bite-sized bit in the middle.

Until ever, there will be three.  I go for ply-policy.
Never put your ducks in a row.  They are too easy to shoot.
Always put your eggs in the basket.  It kept Moses alive.

DINNER AT ABDEL’S

The goat coming for supper was an added boon.
The invitation was so warm, sincere, it did not cross my mind to say no, thank you –
even though the taxi was a stranger
and
we were seven months pregnant.
We sat cross-legged at a knee-high table
dressed in blue and white
and
spread with kind gestures and sweet memories
I am fortunate enough to have shared.

The stars spoke to us of Islam and Islamicism
and
Anti-Islamic hators.
We dissected western interest in a tourist trap
and
I felt affronted at the lack of respect shown
to a land of faith, in a land of faith
that protects the feminine.
That was me, feeling.
Not suspicion, prejudice, fear, doubt or recrimination.
Just love.

The moon tricked us into talking past midnight
and
we invoked spirits in German, English, French, Muslim.
For I believe that Muslim is a language all of its own.
As is any, that cares enough for its people.
I delighted in your children’s certificates and songs
and
loved their shyness.
I felt like part of your family.
I am grateful that you showed us around.
It made Tunisia feel like home.

trash

A trash can is filled with infinite possibilities.  It is fortunate for infinite possibilities that most – in fact, virtually all – people assume that trash cans are filled with rubbish.  They are not only keen to add their own shame, their own shit and their myriad fateful secrets slyly to the mix that has already been consigned to the dustbins of history, but they are also keen to deny these, their contributions.  It is a pity for these people.  Living in denial is no way to live.

When you understand discernment and you have developed an idea of how it is to be enterprising, you become capable of such things as making a golden goose from the shreds of yesterday’s feathers.  You just have to know how to piece a goose together.  That is possible when you have every tool at your fingertips – a privilege granted by the facility – or faculties, if you like – that one finds in dustbins when one takes the time to sift through the miles and miles of rotting refuse.  When you are prepared to get your hands dirty, you get to look at what ‘civilisation’ has tossed away and you get to know how much goodness – greatness – therein lies.  You also get to understand what a world of deceit this planet actually is.  You can choose to let that reality get you down, or you can use what is left inside of you to rebuild yourself – if there is anything left now that you know your ‘civilised minds’ have thrown away everything worthwhile of yours’ that ever was.

I suspect that the best place to have been during these sleazy days and ages, is in the dustbin.  That is where absolutely everything of consequence is.  Lucky for the dustbin.  It has the capacity, the facility, the faculties and the inclination to use every wonder it has discovered within itself to build a brand new something and leave this planet Earth and its people to mend itself, themselves.  If they do not have the tools to do so – that is unfortunate.  They will have to forge them from flint and sticks.

Childhood – Blog No. 56

childhood

Childhood is for children. That means it is a time of innocence. Every child has innocence. Should you be responsible for taking the innocent wonder out of the life-experience of a child, you will have a lot to answer for when that child becomes an adult. It is not easy to ensure that a childhood is untainted in this day and age, but it is possible.

Childhood is short for most children these days, that is why it is important to cherish the idea of it. Again I will say it, if you cannot offer a child a happy childhood, why have one? That kind of a betrayal is sacrilege. Children are all born with hope. Love, and innocence too. If you choose to damage these faculties in a child, you can safely consider yourself a cruel person.

There are those parents that will live vicariously through their children, and this, too, tampers with the early experience that children should be having. Children need guidance, they do not need their parents to make their choices for them. Childhood is a time for exploration, for children to learn how to make sense of the world they have been born into. An adult is not able to make up a child’s mind.

Magick – Blog No. 75

28300When you take the time to understand that there is a difference between magic and magick you will be able to appreciate the wonder of both.  You will find that if you invest time in appreciating the magick that is happening all around you all day, every day, you will become properly alive inside yourself.  This is not a scary prospect – it is like a caterpillar in a chrysalis.  You will become the best you are meant to be.  Do not ever forget that this takes due process.  Becoming your best is a long journey.  If you have stamina you should undertake this journey.  If you do not – that is a shame.  You are missing out.

You have to show gratitude for Nature’s magick in order that she allows its properties to transform you, your life.  You must appreciate her mastery.  She is very, very adept.  Treasure that there is no other that will understand you like she does.  She is you.  From this you can draw comfort.  You have no need to hide from her your ‘sins’.  She understands the nature of man.  And she understands very well the nature of woman, too.  She is familiar with wiles and manipulation.  She does not employ either method in her operation but she accepts that others, do.  That there is yet conflict between the sexes about who is Alpha what is not helpful.  There is always an Alpha female and an Alpha male in Nature’s equation.  Always.  The energy of both.  Bringing together – in harmony – those energies, is where she is headed.  That her work along the way is changing the lay of the land is a reality we should really learn to accept without raising too much objection.  Her motivation is pure.  She is already everywhere that matters.

Magic itself is black, white.  Coloured.  Musical.  Cinematic.  There is no grey area where magic is concerned.  Magic works.  Do not for one moment doubt that fact.  Magic trades secrets in deep, dark belief.  Trust.  You know how a strong belief can save your life?  Or kill you?  Easy.  If you are interested in the at-work aspects of magic and its happenings you must visit voodoo and you must visit ritual, you must hear your heartbeat and you must suspend disbelief for a period long enough to give your inner cynic a chance to keep quiet and learn.  The cynic is entitled to its opinion but it is not invited to share it.  When you next see love in action – and this is not hard to see if you know where to look – know that magick is happening, right there in front of your eyes.  Magick comes to us each when we are primed, open, and ready to receive it.

Open.  Receive it.
