Wisdom evolves in the way all things that evolve, do. That is its wisdom. There is profound clarity in the statement: ‘Wisdom is choosing now what will make sense later.’ That later – when it comes – will provide in its demonstration evidence of wisdom’s consistent evolution. Wisdom trusts instinct. Instinct stems from experience. From time to time it bypasses instinct on its Wisdom Business of researching some learning and as such, focussing on the horizon, it trips over a growth node. That Wisdom has tripped once (or so) is not of much consequence in the big picture. In the big picture space has been made for tripping. Besides, trip-wires are made to be tripped over. It is how you fall that matters, and whether or not you get up.
It would seem that we do not all subscribe to the same Wisdom System. That is a good thing. I trust in what I trust, I believe what I do. That is because I have time-trialed my years and let them come to their own conclusions. It makes sense to work your learning to your advantage, given that true learning does not come easily. Being ‘at an advantage’ does not – in this context – mean that you will find yourself in a privileged position through virtue of your learning, it means that you will find yourself in the perfect position to do what it is in your life that needs doing. The degree of personal work you did with the experiences you chose to have determines your capacity to handle further learning. Handling capacity is what further learning is all about and a life without further learning is pointless.
Naturally, Time’s Wisdom flies. If it was always to walk, it might miss some of its own most important points. It is important to understand that although Wisdom is conveyed by every language on the planet it does not rely on verbal communication. That is why the link between Wisdom and instinct is a strong one. Some things you know. And when you know that you know them, then is when you learn the extent of your experiences’ evolution.
Until you have been taught a language other than your mother-tongue, you cannot appreciate what it is that you have learned to speak. You cannot be sure how you speak, either. The solution, therefore, is to decide in which other language you would like to become fluent and become familiar with its people. That is the best way to begin anything. Make certain you get a teacher that knows what they are speaking, too, otherwise it’s unlikely that you will ever be able to communicate properly.
There are languages that are more beautiful than others. Some places have ways of saying things that resonate with a person’s soul, their entire being. Silence, too, is a language. It is not simple to speak in silence, but it is beautiful. I was told once that the French have a word – or a phrase – to describe that moment right before orgasm, which I think is particularly special. I should like to know if that is true. If it isn’t, perhaps it should be.
Language serves more purposes than communication. It carries in its essence everything we have all ever been. When we think in that way about ourselves, the world as we know it, it would make sense to value each and every language that has ever been developed. It would make sense to value the people that speak those languages, too.
It is an interesting thought. How do you convey an understanding? That is some skill, when you can do that effectively. It is a skill we are all learning, all the time. It is about being skilled in communication. However you choose to do that. Understanding is visceral. You can feel it. How do you confer a feeling? First you must understand the feeling before you can attempt to share it. When you hear a truth, remember that you do not need to remind yourself to remember it for the future, when you hear a truth it sinks right in. You have to do nothing more than hear it. Hearing is not the same as listening. Also, it is best if you do not start trying to fight the truth with reason – man’s reason ought not be valued as much as it is in this world. It tries with its noise to out-shout others whose opinions are more valuable.
It is said that love means understanding a person’s position when they wrong you, treat you badly. Instead of lashing out, you stand back and you consider what pain the person must be in. Pain governs a great deal of bad behaviour and oftentimes deserves empathy. This can be challenging. Of course, should the person treating you badly simply be an arsehole, then take yourself out of their equation. In life there is really little point in surrounding yourself with arseholes, do not allow yourself to become one, either. It is a choice.
To share an understanding with another is a beautiful thing indeed. Your understandings will guide you in life. They guide very effectively when you have them accessible, your understandings lead you to ever-new perceptions about people, times, places. Fresh perceptions are necessary in life. They inspire you. When you understand something new, or you understand a thing differently to the way you understood it before, you give yourself tools with which to work your life around you. It is worth taking time to understand a thing, things. Tools come in a variety of shapes, and sizes.
Please be aware of how you speak to yourself. You would be surprised to know how often you upset yourself with your tone of voice. When you are being shitty – either silently or out loud, hear yourself. Really listen to what it is that you are saying. It will tell you a lot about which of your needs are not being met, which parts of you are disgruntled. Your life is about getting your needs met. Your basic needs – safety, sustenance, love. It is about identifying and addressing the archetypes that reside in your psyche. If you spend enough time watching your behaviours without judging yourself for your actions, you will notice how certain aspects of yourself come to the fore in certain situations. It is very interesting to watch these archetypes act, and interact. Battle. The stiller your mind, the clearer your components and their motivations. We are all made up of components, coping mechanisms, skills. Every single person on this planet has a skill. You must find out what your skill is, and develop it. Adults should help children identify their skill(s), the younger you discover what you excel at, the more informed your choices for your future. Should you have missed the opportunity to identify for yourself what it is that you are good at, then your life is still a mystery. Don’t give up on finding a solution. There is always a solution.
Free speech is vital when you are communicating with yourself. But mind your tone. You must say it as you feel it if you wish to be heard, so know that direct is best. Diplomacy is good if you can manage it. Ears are attuned to decency in a person, kindness of mind. The truth. Don’t lie to yourself. Be disciplined enough to tell the truth. Truth is a discipline. Should you lie to yourself about anything whatsoever, know that is your first failing on the path to self-actualisation. If you want to know who you are, tell yourself how it is to be alive as you – how it really is – and listen to the news of the world. Hear, too, any advice you give yourself. The way you guide yourself counts. There will be a gentleness to your ministrations, and a harshness. A harshness of spirit indicates an impatience, a determination. Anger. Usually, at self. Keep that in mind. It indicates, too, a striving inside. When you will not settle for things the way they are – when you will not accept of yourself or your world anything less than best – you will have to entertain the harsher side of your being. Do not be afraid of your darkness. We all have a harshness of spirit, it comes with the territory of being human. We need it for this life. Train your harshness to drive you forwards. It is your wild. Welcome it. It can take you places.
