Moderate worry – Blog No. 19

Mad

Moderate worry – if only because worrying makes little difference to any outcome.  Be aware that a preoccupation with trying to control a situation by anticipating its worst is counter-productive to its actual outcome.  You worry that tomorrow will come with some vengeance, for instance.  And tomorrow probably will, but how does your fretting – your restless toing and indecisive froing – affect its manifestation?  It simply doesn’t.  The first thing to realise when you are allocating to yourself any kind of panic is that you are wasting your energy and adversely impacting your thinking facility.  You are powerless – using worry – to effect any life changes of a positive kind.

It makes sense to worry a little.  It maintains your presence of mind and it keeps reality real.  It is only in an ideal world that there are no worries to worry about and it would be fair to say that the people inhabiting this planet certainly do not embody an ideal world.  Worry implies care.  It demonstrates a selflessness – unless your concerns are purely self-serving.  We cannot but worry about our children and about the state of the planet, the nature of our changing environment.  The plight of humankind.  The key is not to become consumed by concerns that do not concern you.  Worry about what you can influence.  Let those that can influence what you cannot do what they can do and in the interim spend some time and energy building a future about which no-one has to worry.

If you do not monitor the door open to your worries you will find yourself inundated daily with a succession of sudden crises that you cannot handle.  You need to manage your happenings in such a way that you become adept at discerning when to let a worry into your consciousness and when to deflect it.  Worries are known to grow uncontrollably when they are over-indulged and it is therefore vital to address them with the correct amount of relevant attention.  If you will waste your days dwelling on what is not important you must realise that what is of importance has a way of deciding the future outcome for itself.

Fall Guy – Blog No. 4

FallGuy

I once knew a person who jumped off a sort-of makeshift bridge to demonstrate his expertise to a skeptical audience of one. That was just as well. It blew up soon thereafter. I admired his wisdom, his vision. Better to be a jumper with implicit faith in flight than a smithereen.

When you become the fall guy, which you inevitably will, where you land is sometimes a surprise. Sometimes. It all depends on which way is up. If you know your ups from your downs and your insides from your outsides, the prospect of landing intact is all that you need to worry about. Asides from that – I would say too much worrying about the whats and ifs is pointless. Worry cannot stop an actuality from happening. Pre-emptive care can do that.

If, perchance, we should interpret ‘fall guy’ as the guy responsible for autumn – or more specifically, for autumnal thinking – then we must suggest that it is the right time for him to get busy living. He needs to pit his reason against the season. When autumnal thinking is allowed to get out of hand, which it currently is, the system can do little but sit on its sidelines and watch itself sink into a perpetual winter. That would be fine if the system would sink alone. It won’t, though. It will try every thing it knows to take all of its advocates with it.

Ignorance – Blog No. 20

ignorance-in-business-unethicalIgnorance is a choice.  As is refusing to believe a fact when it is irrefutable.  Fortunately facts abound in our world.  They provide stability, a framework.  Lay-people should not be so afraid of them, they are tried and tested – each one.  Facts can be relied upon.  They are there for you to use, so use them wisely.  It is pointless ignoring them.  That is choosing to be stupid.  No one should choose to be stupid.  Ignorant is not the same as stupid.  There is a marked difference.  Ignorance is curable.  Stupidity is often terminal.

Should you currently find yourself in challenging circumstances do not plead ignorance as to the whys or whens of these tricky situations.  You have brought them to yourself.  They have arrived because you needed to learn something new.  It is simpler to accept lessons when they come, trust that there is a reason.  Lessons occasionally bend you out of shape.  They push your boundaries.  This is not a problem.  Stretching through learning is worth every squeak and groan of the expanding infrastructure in your mind.  When you begin to eradicate your ignorance through deliberate effort you will find that your life opens up immeasurably.  You will find that you start to care more about the world in which you live because you understand it better.

Educate your children.  Then teach them to have patience with ignorance.  There are a lot of ignorant people on this planet and the children are the ones who are going to have to remedy this situation.  It is the next generation that is going to carry that load.  As a people we should think more about what we are consigning to our kids.  The society they are set to inherit is not looking good.  It is going to take a monumental effort on the part of those currently in power to make this different.  One would hope that those currently in power understand their responsibility.

Caring – Blog No. 12

caringCaring is a particularly beautiful human trait.  It is a way of being, a mode of conduct.  Those who care in this world will find that their days are made great by virtue of their efforts.  The days of others are made special because of their efforts, too, and that is important.  It is your job as a human being to make a difference to the lives of other sentient beings – you cannot escape that reality.

Failing to care brings with it grave consequence.  That of meaninglessness.  When you do not care, nothing has meaning, and when nothing in your life has meaning your existence is pointless.  Yes – the meaning of life is a vital component in each of our everydays and it makes sense to care about what your life means – to yourself, and to others.  You are alive – you are meant to live and you are meant to give that living, meaning.

Care builds powerhouses out of communities.  When people care, they pull together.  Unity is the cornerstone of progress and since progress – global progress, i.e. a world made better for everyone – is where Earth is headed, care and unity really should be at the top of everyone’s agenda.  Those who refuse to care for the well-being of this planet and its inhabitants, its Natural legacy, will find their heads empty and their hearts heavy with dread when the time comes for them to leave this Earth.  You do not want to be leaving this Earth with an empty head and a feeling of dread.  My suggestion – please give a shit.  It might just save what’s left of your lives.

Support – Blog No. 73

earth dayIf you have no support of any sort from any person other than yourself, yours is a very challenging existence.  To have the support of another human being, group of human beings, validates your life experience.  It is good to know that somebody cares.  Know that when you are in need of support, it is best to ask for it.  This is not easy for many people – there are a lot of us who find it difficult to ask for help.  Occasionally you will come across a person who offers you support without expecting anything in return.  This is a precious gift.  Receive it with grace if it should come to you.

If you are not feeling particularly useful at the moment, try being supportive to someone.  It will make a difference in their life.  Instead of standing and watching a person struggling, step in and take their hand.  Lift them with a kind word, an observation.  Sometimes people just need to know that someone can see their strife.  Burdens shared – and face it, we all have burdens to carry – are loads lightened.  Be aware of how much support you are prepared to offer.  Do not get caught in the trap of becoming someone’s crutch.  Taking someone else’s life-load on is not advisable.  Not only is it cruel – it takes away the liver’s ability to make decisions that will change their fate – it is counter-productive to your own progress.  You do not get anywhere on your life path by trying to bend straight another’s days.

Know that Nature supports you.  She supports your every move.  She listens, she hears.  You should speak aloud your heart’s desires.  They are not only for thinking about.  They are for realising.  Your human nature makes it possible for you to reach and live your dreams.  You just have to need them enough.  There are many wasted dreams lying in piles of want.  Want does not always get.  Need doesn’t either, but need drives you harder than want does and this makes success more likely.  Make sure you know what you need in your life.  Do not accept that your needs are less important than another’s needs.  Your wants, yes.  They are perhaps less important than the wants of others.  Needs need to be met.  Make their acquaintance.  Take their demands seriously.  Show support for their cause.
