Reason – Blog No. 28

reasonHow are people taught to reason?  Does it come naturally, or is it learned?  Is reason a by-product of philosophy’s tendency to bounce around the word ‘therefore’ when coming to its conclusions?  Reason can complicate matters.  It is an important skill, but employ it wisely.  Do not discount those things you cannot rationally – reasonably – explain.  Not knowing the how or why of something is no reason to disregard it.  In good time everything comes clear – if something does not make sense immediately, trust that it will.  Being capable of understanding is more valuable than being able to reason.  Reason can divert one’s attention from the truth and diverted attention is called not concentrating.  It is vital to concentrate when searching for the truth.

You react because another acts towards you in a certain way.  For instance, the reason a person shoots dead an intruder is because the intruder is trespassing.  That is not reason enough.  The reason a person assassinates another’s character is because they have low self-esteem.  That is not reason enough.  You cannot always excuse an action because there is a reason behind it.  The reason for a genocide is a hatred.  A fear.  Those reasons are never reason enough.

Giving valid reasons for your actions makes sense if you feel the need to explain yourself to other people.  Some people feel that need.  Some people feel the need to make others explain themselves.  Who is anyone to make another person explain themselves?  That need that people have, makes me smile.  Like policemen they stand, demanding disclosure.  You cannot force disclosure if you want the truth.  Ask nicely and you might get an explanation, which is better than being given a reason.  However.  Give reasons if you feel you need to.  Be sure they explain themselves.  It is not to say that the reasons you give will be met with approval, but give them anyway.  They open dialogue.

Understanding – Blog No. 22

understandingIt is an interesting thought.  How do you convey an understanding?  That is some skill, when you can do that effectively.  It is a skill we are all learning, all the time.  It is about being skilled in communication.  However you choose to do that.  Understanding is visceral.  You can feel it.  How do you confer a feeling?  First you must understand the feeling before you can attempt to share it.  When you hear a truth, remember that you do not need to remind yourself to remember it for the future, when you hear a truth it sinks right in.  You have to do nothing more than hear it.  Hearing is not the same as listening.  Also, it is best if you do not start trying to fight the truth with reason – man’s reason ought not be valued as much as it is in this world.  It tries with its noise to out-shout others whose opinions are more valuable.

It is said that love means understanding a person’s position when they wrong you, treat you badly.  Instead of lashing out, you stand back and you consider what pain the person must be in.  Pain governs a great deal of bad behaviour and oftentimes deserves empathy.  This can be challenging.  Of course, should the person treating you badly simply be an arsehole, then take yourself out of their equation.  In life there is really little point in surrounding yourself with arseholes, do not allow yourself to become one, either.  It is a choice.

To share an understanding with another is a beautiful thing indeed.  Your understandings will guide you in life.  They guide very effectively when you have them accessible, your understandings lead you to ever-new perceptions about people, times, places.  Fresh perceptions are necessary in life.  They inspire you.  When you understand something new, or you understand a thing differently to the way you understood it before, you give yourself tools with which to work your life around you.  It is worth taking time to understand a thing, things.  Tools come in a variety of shapes, and sizes.

Domination – Blog No. 16

Mc_DominationDomination is an interesting game to play.  We have all spent time trying to dominate – situations, people, opinions.  The need to be dominant is a throw-back to our wild.  Males and females both do it.  Children try it on all the time.  Domination is not wholly an unhealthy pursuit, it just depends how far you will go to be the dominator.  Take Russia for example, they are busy playing dangerous domination games.  They will dominate in Crimea, despite the rising tide of negative public opinion with regards this particular pursuit of power.  It would seem that they imagine themselves invincible.  Their view is irresponsible, provocative, and it does not sit easy with the global community.  Perhaps Russia should give some thought to the fact that they are currently disturbing the balance on our planet.  This has consequences.  I do not believe that Russia has the right to decide that Crimea needs to be a part of its make-up.  Crimea belongs to the Crimeans, not the Russians.  In fact, it is peculiarly obnoxious for Russia to be stretching its borders to include land that does not belong under Russia’s thumb.  It would seem that Vladimir Putin forgets that invasions did not work well for Hitler in the long run.  His big ideas are small-minded.  Outdated.  In actuality – backward.  In fact it has to be asked – who exactly does Russia think it is?  It cannot convince anyone that its objectives are honourable, no matter how earnest its self-righteous claims.

Domination is a key factor in relationships.  Traditionally, women have learned and played the submissive role.  Men have been the dominators.  Of course there are many exceptions to this rule, but conditioning has seen to it that men stand head and shoulders above women when it comes to being ‘in charge’.  It is refreshing to see the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, making inroads in a male-dominated industry.  Politics is an industry, as much as capitalism is an industry.  It is encouraging to watch Hilary Clinton at work in her fields of expertise – the adherence to the ways of women bodes well for the future of global diplomacy.  There are good reasons why women are usually better at diplomacy than men are.  Theirs’ is a learned patience, an inherent understanding of how the world and its people work.

Sex is about domination.  Base instinct sees males mounting females in Nature, although it should be remembered that mating in Nature is most often consensual.  A male will seldom mount a female unless she has given him the go-ahead.  With humans, it is not always this way.  There seems to be a subliminal need for humans to demonstrate their prowess – their core ‘power’ – by being the person ‘on top’.  Both men and women subscribe to this theory of sexuality and both use their wiles and their ways to make their statement of fact.  Be aware that rape is about domination.  Slavery is about domination.  Domestic violence is about domination, as is child abuse.  Think about it.  Domination needs careful management.  Ungoverned, it creates problems, pain, wars.

Faith – Blog No. 9

faithThe bottom line is that it does not matter what you have faith in, as long as you do have faith in something.  Perhaps in these fractured times the only thing you feel comfortable having faith in, is yourself.  If that is the case, know that that is enough.  When you believe in what you can do – in your individual capacity, and as part of a collective – you harness a power that will surprise you with where it can take you, and others.  Should you wish to believe in a power higher than yourself (which is all relative, for what you find in yourself is what has existed for centuries in all of the gods, God, Allah, Dreamtime, Nature, etc, feel justified in doing so.  You are a reflection of what you find admirable in your chosen deity/deities.)  You can believe in more than one deity, if you so choose.  All the ‘good’ characteristics that you try to adopt, emulate, exist inside of you already so it matters not which ‘good’ you ultimately choose to follow, it is all the same thing, really.  That should be a comforting thought.

Faith means dedication.  It means understanding and application.  Simply believing in something and trusting its say-so is not enough, you need to do something with your faith.  Make it work for you.  That is what it is for.  Faith is not there to subjugate you, to cripple your progress, so if what you choose to believe in makes you lesser rather than greater as a human being, then perhaps you need to shuffle your belief systems a little, or change your faith.

Faith is a symbol of hope.  It keeps you striving for better, going forwards.  Faith should have no boundaries, no restrictions.  Nor should a person’s faith receive criticism or judgement from another person.  You should be able to open wide to the understanding that placing your implicit trust in something is not a weakness.  It is a strength.  For one reason or another, humans go far further in life when they believe they are supported somehow, by something, in this world.  Perhaps what you believe in is not ‘of’ this world, technically, but faith means you know it is out there and it makes a difference to your everyday, the knowing.  Faith has extraordinary power, and this power – when properly directed – can change an entire existence.

Magick – Blog No. 75

28300When you take the time to understand that there is a difference between magic and magick you will be able to appreciate the wonder of both.  You will find that if you invest time in appreciating the magick that is happening all around you all day, every day, you will become properly alive inside yourself.  This is not a scary prospect – it is like a caterpillar in a chrysalis.  You will become the best you are meant to be.  Do not ever forget that this takes due process.  Becoming your best is a long journey.  If you have stamina you should undertake this journey.  If you do not – that is a shame.  You are missing out.

You have to show gratitude for Nature’s magick in order that she allows its properties to transform you, your life.  You must appreciate her mastery.  She is very, very adept.  Treasure that there is no other that will understand you like she does.  She is you.  From this you can draw comfort.  You have no need to hide from her your ‘sins’.  She understands the nature of man.  And she understands very well the nature of woman, too.  She is familiar with wiles and manipulation.  She does not employ either method in her operation but she accepts that others, do.  That there is yet conflict between the sexes about who is Alpha what is not helpful.  There is always an Alpha female and an Alpha male in Nature’s equation.  Always.  The energy of both.  Bringing together – in harmony – those energies, is where she is headed.  That her work along the way is changing the lay of the land is a reality we should really learn to accept without raising too much objection.  Her motivation is pure.  She is already everywhere that matters.

Magic itself is black, white.  Coloured.  Musical.  Cinematic.  There is no grey area where magic is concerned.  Magic works.  Do not for one moment doubt that fact.  Magic trades secrets in deep, dark belief.  Trust.  You know how a strong belief can save your life?  Or kill you?  Easy.  If you are interested in the at-work aspects of magic and its happenings you must visit voodoo and you must visit ritual, you must hear your heartbeat and you must suspend disbelief for a period long enough to give your inner cynic a chance to keep quiet and learn.  The cynic is entitled to its opinion but it is not invited to share it.  When you next see love in action – and this is not hard to see if you know where to look – know that magick is happening, right there in front of your eyes.  Magick comes to us each when we are primed, open, and ready to receive it.

Open.  Receive it.

How real are you? – Blog No. 30

inner-childHow seriously do you take yourself?  I hope that you pay yourself due attention.  Know when to be serious about your life, but know that if you are too serious you run the risk of missing the point of being.  We are also on this planet to play.  Each of us humans has a child inside of us that requires indulgence and parenting.  Even if you have no children of your own, realise that you are still a parent.  You are a parent to yourself.  You cannot avoid this role.  That voice you hear nagging in your head, that chase you feel in yourself when you are doing right, or wrong, that is part of being responsible for your person.  Do you respect your inner parent?  How do you respond to its criticism?  Do you hear criticism, or do you hear words of love and encouragement?  Listen and decide.  What type of parent are you?  Analyse your patterns and your proclivities.  As both child, and parent.  You will see in your style of parenting your understanding of yourself.  You want to understand yourself, your inner child.  You will find in the child your shelved dreams.  Your core beliefs.  How you respond to the world of your inner child is of grave consequence.  Should you show no respect for its evidence you will find yourself relying solely on your conditioning to get you by in this life of trials.  The child has no qualms about leaving you to your own devices.  It has enough with which to occupy itself.  Should you ignore it, it will ignore you.  A warning – do not rely on your conditioning.  It is not who you are.  It is who you have learned to be and in that you may as well be an automaton.  Be who you are.  Work around that which is already in you – your conditioning.  It is essential if we wish to meet our real selves.  Separate from what you know.  Find yourself in the unknown.

Your parent is a construct.  Understand that. You have built it into what it is.  Now take its essence and mould it to the kind of parent you know your inner child needs.  Make the conscious choice to give yourself what is necessary to bring out your best.  That is in your power.  It is good to know you have power.  Use it.
